Pita bread / Arabic Bread or Lebanese bread, as some call it, plays a significant role in Lebanon and Middle East. A daily ritual and no meal is complete without it; it is eaten to scoop everything up with. Store-bought pita (like store-bought sandwich bread) is often several days old. Warm, fragrant home-baked pita is obviously superior, and there's a bit of a thrill when the breads puff up in the oven.
Pita (/ˈpɪtə/ or US: /ˈpiːtə/) or pitta (British English), is a family of yeast-leavened round flatbreads baked from wheat flour, common in the Mediterranean, Middle East, and neighboring areas.
This doesnt taste exactly like arabian pita, but it is close.
So quick and easy, and tastes better with arabian dishes (hummous, falafel, shawerma, etc).
You can cook Arabic pita breads with 5 Ingredients and 5 steps. See the following guide!
Ingredients for Arabic pita breads:
- 800 gr flour.
- 400 ml water.
- 4 tbsp olive oil.
- 1 pinch sugar.
- 1 tsp salt.
Puffy soft arabic pita bread which is so easy to make. Make this arabic bread and enjoy it with grilled chicken, garlic sauce and hummus. This stove top version is easier than oven version. The bread will puff up like a balloon during baking and will collapse when cooled.
Step by step how to cook Arabic pita breads:
- Put all ingredients in a bowl and knead it into a ball. The dough has to be soft but not sticky.
- Wrap the dough in cling film and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Divide it in 16 balls. Take a ball of dough and roll it out on a floured surface. You should make them as thin as possible.
- Place the pita bread in a non-stick pan (with no oil) and let it cook for 1-2 minutes until you see it rise..
- Turn it over and cook it for another minute..
Loaves may be eaten immediately or frozen for long-term storage. Warm frozen pitas briefly in the oven before serving. In large mixer bowl soften yeast in warm water. Stir in as much remaining flour as you can mix in with a spoon. Turn onto lightly floured work surface.
